Your Questions About Tech Lighting

Charles asks…
What do I need to include in a theatre tech manual?
Hello, I am the director of a non-profit performing arts group. We have a live band, singers & dancers. Approx cast is 60 people. This will be our 4th major performance. We are going to a professional theatre & will have union workers. In the past I’ve always just created a manual that had, the mood I was looking for for each number as far as lighting, what types of mics are needed for each number, and a copy of what the staging layout will be. My question is, since we’re going to be using professionals this year, am I missing anything major out of this packet of info I need to provide? We’re non-profit are really having problems securing funds so I can’t hire out. Any help would be SO APPRECIATED! Thanks!

Sonny answers:
Try contacting your local AEA office (Actor’s Equity Association)… They are the union for professional actors and stage managers. Also, here’s a link to some technical theatre websites, unions, and publications where you may find more information. Break a leg!

David asks…
Would the ultrasound tech tell you if they found something or if you were pregnant?
I did an ultrasound today, and the ultrasound tech didn’t tell me anything she just said the doctor would look at it. There was a round black spot that looked like it had a cord going in it. She kept measuring it and did a color doppler scan the spot lighted up yellow. Why didn’t she tell me anything. Couldn’t an ultrasound tech tell you if you are pregnant or not or if it is cyst or what.

Sonny answers:
Legally they can not give you any information regarding the Ultrasound. Your physician will contact you as soon as a Radiologist reads the ultrasound. I know it is hard to wait, but this is done for your protection(making sure you are not given false information).

Sharon asks…
What’s the MOST appropriate color shirt for a tech job interview? white shirt only or light color is ok?
I usually wear a light blue with a navy color suit and a tie that will go with all three pieces. Can I still use the same color shirt or would it be better to wear a white shirt instead?

Sonny answers:
Wear a CISCO T-Shirt, with a nice button down shirt..unbuttoned, make sure you have a pocket protector
Nice pants, pulled up 2inches past your belly button.
Put like three cell-phones on your belt, along with a cable tester.
Broken Glasses are a plus.

Donald asks…
vauxhaull vetra eco-tech sri oil warning light has lit up and engine is now really noisy and rattley. any idea
I have changed the oil and filter and the light is only on when idle, when you drive it the engine goes quiet again and the light goes out, it has ran perfect and then this just happeened the other day. I thought maybe the oil pump but I have never owned a vectra before so have a lack of knowledge with them….

Sonny answers:
Have you checked your oil level. If you are to low it will not help the engine. It sounds like the top and bottom bearings are gone. It means you need a new engine.

Nancy asks…
In light of Virginia Tech, How do guns protect anyone?
I hate guns however the U..S. constitution says we have the right to bear arrms. Seems to me that idiot Cho bore them well and Virginia cheerfully helped him with that right. What’s the problem?

Sonny answers:
Guns dont kill ppl stupid ppl kill ppl

Maria asks…
In light of Virginia Tech’s shooting can People make themselves aware of the strange and usual?
Should we jump to blaming the Gun Laws? (Konwing deep in our hearts that if everyone had one it would probably only be 3 dead vs 33) Should we look at the Professor’s, past Teacher’s, classmates, roommates, and others as to why no one considered this person was a danger? Basically can we all as people face the fact that we live in a Society that if someone is determine to kill, you can’t blame no one but that individual? Last, When will we wake up and understand why Our forefathers gave everyone the right to bare arms!

Sonny answers:
Adding more guns to the situation is not the solution. Reinstating the Federal Assault Weapons Ban that Bush let lapse back in ’04 may have stopped him from purchasing the glocks.
Some of his professors and classmates had raised concerns. One professor even had a code word with her teacher’s assistant just in case she felt she was in danger around him.
You can’t Monday morning quarterback this. There is no way to predict the future, and you can’t expect anyone to have seen this coming.
