Your Questions About Plug In Track Lights

Maria asks…
Does anyone know what the double hanging lamps are called?
We have an older home with no lights in the dining room. Whoever lived here before had put up some track with 4 little sliding hooks. Hanging from these hooks is 2 light fixtures that are corded together and run off of one plug in. Does anyone know what these are called? I have looked all over the internet and have only found the hanging lights that have only one fixture. I need two that are wired to the same plug in. Any advise would be helpful!!!

Donna asks…
Ways to relieve a overloaded breaker?
My house is 50+ years old I have a 100a service. Today I finally got around to mapping which breaker controls which electrical devices in the house. I have one 15A breaker controlling approximately 5 rooms in my house, there are 20 separate outlets on this breaker (12 plugs, 8 separate lights). I have never had the breaker trip on me, but the situation is not safe. Is there anything I can do at the panel to help this, or is re-wiring the only option?
Secondly, I found 6 breakers that are connected to wires, but do not appear to control any outlets in the house, is there a way to track these through the house?

With out electrical experience as far as to split the circuit, I suggest you hire some one for this to lighten the load as you say. I agree that if you use CFL bulbs it will lower the amperage you pull with many lights on and this will help your light bill as well.
It is not unusual to have older homes with so much on them, today’s devices use more then what they did 50 years ago of course.
As far as the breakers you know of that do not operate anything, check things like furnace, washing machine, kitchen receptacles, sump pumps maybe an old well pump. I would leave them on and make sure first they do not operate anything.
As stated before you can buy a tracer that may help you find what goes where but again time you buy this thing and take the time to do this and still may not find what you have I suggest just call maybe a friend in the field or a electrician to help you out.
If the rooms in question do not have a ot of things but lamps and a few light loads I would not worry about it till you do start tripping breakers.
