Decorator to the rescue here! LOL Your globes can be whatever color you want them to be, just keep in mind a few other things before you decide.

If you are having having white or cream walls, and you want plain/ neutral globes, go with ones the same as the wall color. For example, cream globes on a white wall will look dirty, go with white. Or, if you have say a white and black granite counter, go with white. If you have an earth toned counter go with cream. Buy a globe of each color, put it on the fixture. Your eye will tell you which is the right choice.

HOWEVER, no need to be plain unless that is the look you like, as they come in a great array of colors- even a tortoise shell glass, so let your imagination play.

I’d suggest starting at Lowe’s. They have a wide array of globes placed on bulbs so that you can see what they look like when fixture is on. Do keep in mind that if it’s a main bath you use for makeup, etc, a lot of colored globes can distort true skin tones. Again, for example, if you have a 3 or 4 light fixture, buy 3 or 4 globes that you like, put them all on and decide which works with your decor/ taste, then return the ones that didn’t work or just exchange them for more of the one that did.

We tried them along a walkway and were very disappointed. The light they produced was very dim at best. We soon replaced them with low voltage wired lights. We now use the solar lights on a boat dock and still consider them ineffective.

If you car uses a separate wire for each function for the rear. Turn, brake, tail, and back up about ten foot for each to reach the steering column plus a couple of feet to use as ground wires. Then you can figure about eight feet of wire per function for the front of the car. Headlamps high and low, turn, and marker. Two wires to dome lamp for feet each.

10 X 5 = 50
8 X 4 = 32

So you would have approximately 90 feet of wire believe it or not. This is just for the lighting systems only.

With out electrical experience as far as to split the circuit, I suggest you hire some one for this to lighten the load as you say. I agree that if you use CFL bulbs it will lower the amperage you pull with many lights on and this will help your light bill as well.
It is not unusual to have older homes with so much on them, today’s devices use more then what they did 50 years ago of course.
As far as the breakers you know of that do not operate anything, check things like furnace, washing machine, kitchen receptacles, sump pumps maybe an old well pump. I would leave them on and make sure first they do not operate anything.
As stated before you can buy a tracer that may help you find what goes where but again time you buy this thing and take the time to do this and still may not find what you have I suggest just call maybe a friend in the field or a electrician to help you out.
If the rooms in question do not have a ot of things but lamps and a few light loads I would not worry about it till you do start tripping breakers.

First read the specs on the xformer to make sure it is rated to handle 100watts.Remove the bulbs before installing the new xformer to check the low voltage lines for short circuit with your multi-meter or tester. Semi-trucks can’t stop hauling because America lives through the goods the truckers haul. And up here in MN, the river barges bring up alot of goods, but they can only run when the river isn’t frozen…we’d be in big trouble without the truckers running in the winter months.

The current road workers would simply switch materials, instead of laying asphalt and concrete, they’d lay solar panels and electrical wiring. And as for the oil industry employees, they can help maintain the new roadways. With a project like this, there’ll be plenty to do and there’ll be people who need that work.

If we can go from home-spun and wooden farm implements to tv and cell phones in 200 years, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be able to go from asphalt and oil to solar panels and magnetic cars in another 200. The colonists would never have dreamed of the things we have now, the inventions we’ve come up with. So it’s understandable that we now can’t fathom using solar panels for roadways.

How will erasing our dependancy on oil and building electro-magnetic interstate highways revert us into a 3rd world country? We’d still be thriving and expanding, we’d be moving forward. Some 3rd world countries still have public plumbing in the streets and walk further everyday for dry wood to heat their homes and hearths.

Tie rod ends and the rest of the ball joints . I also think they had problems with where the steering box bolted to the frame, they tended to crack. Also are your tire pressures correct if it is lower than 35psi when cold you can get a sloppy feel to your front end as well as worn shocks could give that feel too.
You are partially correct in replacing the hoses to the brake lines, the could have been collapsing due to the age and milage. If the previouse replier read he would have noticed you said front end slop not general shimmy… Then again what do you expect from a jiffy lube flunkie. You also dont have rear cv joints the rear stabilizer would cause issues on the rear not front and the rest has nothing to do with the front end shimmy either
the track bar or steering stabilizer will cause a violent shake known as a death wobble when hitting a pothole or bump to hard . Not during general driving. You also don’t check ball joints on a jeep like that by wiggleig the tire like described. You need a large pair of channel locks and have one jaw on the top and one on the bottom and squeeze. Mine never moved in the way the other guy described but when i replaced them the joint part fell out of the socket part on a couple of them.. Im telling you these things i know from experiance not just he told me or whatever i did attend a automotive tech center plus had futher training by the shop supervisor which not ony taught me how to check things but why we check them that way.. Meaning like i said with the ball joints you will never get movement the way the other guy said to check them.

When buying a dimmer switch, you need to pay attention to the switches rating. You need to add up the total wattage of all the light bulbs in the fixture, (if you have 4 75 watt bulbs, then you need a dimmer switch that is rated for 300 watts or more).

You also need to make sure the lights you are trying to dim are dimmable, check the manufacturers recommendation.

When people look at a house for sale, it’s assumed that things like lighting fixtures will go with the house when it’s sold unless you specify that they won’t. It really would have been best to remove the fixtures you wanted to keep, and put something else there before you showed the house. What you should do now is get the realtor to check with the buyers and see if they’re okay with different fixtures, saying you will of course pay for the new fixtures and installing them, and that you’re willing to have the buyers choose what you’ll have installed. If all this is going on, they might as well get something they want.

Sounds like you got a short between the switch and the light. You need to check and see if any of the wires are nicked. Check if you see any copper. Or you may have water or moister getting in your light fixture. Make sure there are no holes in fixture. Silicone comes in handy. Your wires maybe hooked up wrong. Make sure your black wires are tied to black wires and white with white and green to green or bare. As far as cw im not sure it might mean cover with i don’t know.

It depends on the camera or detector. Visible Light is just part of the electromagnetic spectrum. We have different devices that are sensitive to the various parts of the spectrum (radio, microwave, infrared, visible light, ultra violet, x rays, gamma rays) Any camera or detector can be created to register the just about any wavelength. But for generating imagery that is meaningful to us in an everyday way there is little point going below infrared or ultra Violet.

As for audio devices – sound are pressure waves in a medium (typically air, but could be water or solid material). So we can build a microphone or detector to pick up any frequency of sound. But to ‘hear’ a sound below or above the human ear threshold the frequency must be converted into the range of human hearing on playback. So we never can ‘hear’ the Original sound. Be that as it may changing the frequency to audible ranges does not alter the patterns in the sound so if that is what we are recording for it is still very useful.

I consider dynamos the items built into hubs, and the things that rub against the wheel as generators. Although they both produce current the dynamo is much more efficient.

Anyway, no, the sidewall will be fine if you use blackwall, gunwall, or whitewall tires. The problem comes up if you use skinwall.

Several of the posters touched on the answer. The dynamo lights went away due to the improvement in the size and life of batteries. A second issue is bulb life, as the old style dynamos spin up and down the voltage changes and this is seen in the change in light output, an other bad side affect of this is shortened bulb life. Today with the advancement in electronics these issues can be corrected so the dynamo systems should make a good come back.

1. Figure the Room Cavity Ratio (the volume of space you need to light): RCR=(5 x ceiling height x (length + width of room)) / (area of room)
This will return a number between 0 and 10.
You find a fixture data sheet for the light fixture you want to use, take that number and apply it to the coefficient of utilization table. This will return a number between 0 and 1.
If this sounds too complicated, then if your room is generally a box with a 9 foot ceiling, then use a generic 0.70 for your CU.

2. Determine your light level in footcandles (FC). You can use a generic maintenance factor (MF) of 0.65 if you don’t know.
FC=(total lumens per light fixture x number of fixtures x CU x MF) / (area of room).
This formula can be algabraically rearranged if you know what light level you want but don’t know how many light fixtures you need.

There are some programs that do this for you, but this is actually one of the simplest methods

For faucets: I bought my kitchen faucet from Overstock.com. It’s a Treviso that normally sells for $279.00 but I got it for $60.

For lighting: try Craigslist. People are finicky and they change their lighting out often, and many times they donate it to thrift stores or try to sell it on Craigslist. I got the light fixtures for both my kitchen and bedrooms for about $115 total, but after doing some research and seeing the lighting online I saw that altogether it would have cost over $700 brand new.

You didn’t say whether these are flourescent or incandescent (light bulb) fixtures. If flouresecent, I’d guess it’s oil leaking from an old ballast. But if they’re incandescent, you’ve got a leak in the ceiling and you need to find it and fix it. If the liquid appears to be green colored water, my first guess is that your light fixture has a faux-brass finish, and the green is from the metal corroding. Another possibility – do you use those colored in-tank toilet freshener things? Could be this is colored water leaking from the toilet tank.

Despite Mark’s comment about “what are the chances of leaking right into the light”, this is exactly where you WOULD expect to see a leak (looking at some of his answers, I really have to wonder about his claim of being a 20yr Master Electrician). Water flows to the lowest point, and in your kitchen ceiling, that lowest point is the hole into the light fixture. I’ve walked into places where a bathroom leak upstairs has turned the light fixture globes below into fishbowls.

If you’ve got attic access above the kitchen, crawl up there and start looking for the source of the leak. If you don’t have attic access– first, starting by closely examining all water sources upstairs, checking the toilet tank and all the supply lines for signs of leaking. If you can’t find an obvious source upstairs, you’re going to have to open up the ceiling to access it from below (on the up side, there’s a good chance you’re going to have to open the ceiling to replace damaged drywall anyway).

It’s quite possible that the source of the leak is nowhere near the light fixtures. If you don’t see a puddle (or staining) on the ceiling surface between the joists, starting looking for paths that the liquid could be following to getting to the area — either along a framing member (look at the underside of the rafters above the area, or along a pipe, conduit or cable.

I wouldn’t use too many, probably four-six. Have them at least one foot away from the wall and as for spacing between them, I think it looks best to have some kind of symmetry, so as long they are lined up and and spaced evenly, also I wouldn’t put them closer then three or four feet. You need to think about what they are going to be lighting too. For this room I would say you could go with one in each corner (4) or three along each 16′ wall (6) one in each corner and one halfway along the wall.

I used halogen construction lights with photo umbrellas. Remember studio light is balanced and soft. what you do to
light a subject is either
DIFFUSE -soften light by shining through fabric barrier, forget it if you don’t have a pro rig, can be a fire hazard (been there).

BOUNCE-reflect light onto your subject, works with any reflective material…that is what the umbrellas are for. You point the light at the correct angle into the umbrella and it bounces back onto your subject. DO NOT place the umbrella directly on the light (fire Hazard, been there too). It needs to be at least the length of the umbrella depending how hot your lights are.

FILL- best used for detail light on subject, ex face…use a piece of white foam core to bounce ambient/available light to bounce light up…

Finally look at photos see what the light is doing, where is it coming from…look at Mapplethorpe ( not everybody’s fave) but a master of lighting and Edward Weston, Helmut Newton

Its easy. The purpose of lighting is to produce light not heat. Light, for these purposes, is measure in candlepower or brightness. An ideal work surface will have 100 candlepower of light on it. This is the output.

Electricity is the input.

To get the most efficiency, you want the most candle power for the least electricity or wattage.

So, if you have two 100 watt bulb and one produces 10 candle power and the other produces 20, the answer is clear.

If you want to be detailed, you will include cost to purchase versus life long savings.

So, if you have a 100 watt bulb that costs $10, lasts 1 month and produces 100 candle power and compare it to a 100 watt bulb that costs $10, lasts 2 months and produces 50 candle power, the cost is the same.

As long as the fixtures can take the CFLs you can just replace the dimmer with a switch. Dimmable CFLs do not work like a regular light bulb does. They just get about a quarter dimmer than full and die. Whereas a regular bulb will go down to maybe 80% dimmer than full.

A simple lamp wiring kit should have most of the parts you need or take the track lights to a lighting shop and have them wire a plug into the track lights for you. Yeah but they are very hard to find. What I would suggest to you is to get a normal track light and get normal house wire(used for the electrical in the wall). Then buy a junction box (http://img.alibaba.com/photo/11147813/Junction_Box.jpg)
and screw it in a stud in the cieling, once done attach the wire that you have to the wire of the fixture in the junction box ( black on black, white on white, green to copper). Your interest in the business is already established, and they can be assured that you will work hard because you want to learn from the pros.

You can use car polish to remove the oxidation and restore the original color but to be honest, that is what Al does. If you clean it all up, in 3 years it will oxidize again. It’s the exposure to ultraviolet radiation that is the culprit.

You can use people to monitor and operate and control the system, but that is still a building management system, and the people need to be managed too. You mean the computerized (that is automated) type, of course. The advantages are that it provides centralized monitoring and control, with alarms, warnings and maintenance control all in a single system, so there are economies of scale. There still needs to be someone looking after it. These systems tend to evolve over time. The idea is it reduces staff for savings, as well as the security issues and power savings.

I see few alternatives, as there has to be some sort of management. Perhaps one alternative is distributed control. At the lowest level each machine is operated at its own level of automation, and has no indication or co-ordination of itself with the others, other than that there may be a common plant room. At higher levels the machines could communicate among themselves and ask others some parts of what is going on. In the end the centralized BMSS is the cheaper way of achieving this. It achieves economies of scale in the networking, the use of common modules around the building for communication and control, security, and a single centralized display, alarm and records system makes more sense than having them all over the place.

Perhaps you need to think what your goal is in not having the BMSS. Generally you can use the same plant. A lot of units already have connection points ready for networking and a degree of autonomy has to be there anyway. You will find yourself gradually adding centralized controls, so you may as well have a good plan before you start. A BMSS could be as simple as a PC with a network to all the machines, and software to suit. That software is the key issue. Where does it come from. You don’t want to have to reinvent the wheel. People implement systems in various ways, but I think a lot of them tend to use PL Cs at key locations. Turning the air conditioning down at night automatically will provide significant savings, and could be as simple as a 7 day timer that changes thermostat settings by shunting a resistor across the setting etc. If you have suitably skilled staff they will know and implement these things. Needs a balance of what you want and who you employ. I would say most buildings need some sort of BMSS for security and fire alarms alone, not even thinking about energy savings. How you implement these in most places depends a bit on local regulations too, and these will become more and more stringent with time I think. You need to consult with someone about a building services plan. The bigger the building the more significant this becomes.
