Track lighting has one electrical box in the ceiling that supplies the power to the track and allows lights to be located anywhere on the track. Pendant lights require a separate box for each fixture unless you can find a hybrid which has a track that multiple pendants can hang from. I’ve never seen one but I’ve never actually looked for one either.
They make pendant lights to hang from track lighting. Just be careful to only use the wattage allowed for the track lighting. Some track lights are low voltage (transformer) and only allow a certain amount of wattage to light the pendants safely. They usually have large displays at Lowes or Home Depot to give you an idea as to what you are looking for.
